Personalizing Cremation Services for Someone Special
When you decide on cremation services for a loved one, you might have done so for a variety of reasons. Perhaps you appreciate that service because of the choices you have in final resting places. Or maybe you like the idea because it allows you memorial service timeline and style options. Whatever the reasoning, there are personal things you can do to make your loved one’s services special for them, and for your family. Here are a few options to consider.
Make A Slideshow of Pictures
One of the things that can personalize your loved one’s memorial service is a slideshow of pictures that feature them. This is something that can be playing in the background of the whole event, or you can make it a feature that plays at a certain time during the service. You might include music or keep it silent so people can talk while it is on. The pictures can be of your loved one alone, with family members, and doing some of the things they loved.
Allow Others to Share
Depending on what kind of event you are having, you could allow people to share stories of your loved one. You might have an open mic time, or just sit around a table and let people talk openly about things they remember about your loved one. Hearing those stories can be cathartic to you—you are always going to have your family and you are always going to have those memories. You might even hear things you didn’t know before or be able to share things that other people didn’t realize about your loved one.
Write A Song/Poem
If you are a creative sort, writing a poem about your loved one, or even putting lyrics to a tune in the form of a song can help you to vent emotions and make the service that much more personal and special for your loved one and the rest of your family. You might share a print-out of the poem or a recording of the song for people to read and hear again later as they remember how you honored the person who died.
Host A Celebratory Event
Your loved one is gone, and they are not coming back. That is very sad. But at the same time, they had a great life and that might be cause for celebration. You could host a celebratory dinner, a cook-out, a dance party, or anything else you have in mind to showcase your loved one’s personality and style. The event can be anything you want it to be, and it can happen right away after the cremation or in the future when you are ready to make such plans.
Offer Memorial Items
At the event you hold for your loved one, you might want to have a memorial item on hand that you can pass out to those who attend. You could offer bookmarks with their picture on it, books they collected, or something else.
